Pippen is a priest of Bali, one of the goddesses represented in the Three Ladies Religion. Of her common mandates, Pippen holds most to her creed of "remedies come first from your own fortitude." He refuses to retain wealth, instead purchasing only the necessities and donating the rest to the hungry ("take when needed, give when able" being another of her mandates). He is a humble man, only wears his brown or un-dyed cotton robes (if those provided by his church are in need of washing, he has purchased a second set, to be in-offensive to those around him if his clothes are mired), simple rope belt, and carries a simple cotton shoulder-bag for his various herbs, remedies and whatever the poor, or the cause, might need from him.

His true strength lies, really, in his ability to rally those around him. His belief that all men and women have hidden sources of strength and good within them shows itself when he is tested, as he can pull together a crowd to rally to a cause within no time flat. His kind, charismatic nature is genuine, and he never values himself or his own needs over those around him at any time.

As a symbol of his dedication to the impoverished or those down on his luck, this monk carries only a large wooden spoon as both a weapon and his holy symbol. He is also proficient, though, in net, as it is a weapon he can use to feed those around him.

Pippen arrives in the Mürmaids adventure along with Necromancer Jim. The two of them made fairly close friends in their boat-ride to Darkshelf, as Jim appreciates Pippen's attitude towards kindness, and Pippen recognizes the immense fortitude it must have taken for Jim to survive what he has, and keep a generally good outlook on the world.
